Last summer the Milan bought a Dutch midfielder, Tijjani Reijnders, who immediately earned his place as a starter in the Rossoneri team. According to what was reported this morning by the Corriere dello Sport the rumors about AC Milan’s significant interest in the Dutch midfielder would have been confirmed Mats Wieffer, left out of the meetings Euro 2024 due to an injury that occurred at the end of the season. The reasons for this Rossoneri choice are very clear. The first task of the new coach Paulo Fonseca will be to find a defensive balance which, in the last season, was practically forgotten with Milan having recorded by far the best among the big teams worst defensive phase. In this sense Wieffer would have the right characteristics: he is a defensive midfielder which would be largely capable of guaranteeing greater coverage and acting as a link between the defensive department and the midfield area. He has an important physique (189 centimetres) and in recent seasons with Feyenoord – but also with the national team – he has collected important presences in the European field and also in the Champions League.

The CorSport this morning reports that New contacts are expected in the next few days, more concrete, between the Milan management and the player’s entourage. In this sense, Wieffer’s absence from the European championships could be an advantage since it would guarantee the Rossoneri club to be able to close the possible operation also in the coming weeks. The difficulty will be convincing the Feyenoord. The 24-year-old footballer has a contract until 2024 and therefore the Dutch are not forced to discount the price of Wieffer who it is valued at 30 million. For Milan there will be some thinking to do. Meanwhile for the other Dutchman sought on the market, Joshua Zirkzee, there has been no significant progress made between the club and the Bologna striker’s agent. The difference is that the striker was called up at the last minute to Germany for Euro 2024 and this it could lengthen the time. They are at the window Arsenal and United who, however, at the moment have simply asked for information and have not entered into any negotiations.
