He should have looked after the mom 84 years old, disabled and not self-sufficient. Instead, her daughter, a 49-year-old, would have left the house to go to vacation in Abruzzo together with her two minor children, without providing due care to their mother, who was thus left to herself, without food or water and without any mobile phone to call for help. The old woman died of starvation and her daughter was stopped by the carabinieri of the Monterotondo company, on the orders of the Tivoli prosecutor’s office.
The investigations
The investigation began with the discovery of the old woman’s body on the morning of June 12th when the Carabinieri from the Montelibretti station went to the suspect’s home to serve her with a document. Once the military arrived on site, despite not receiving any response from those who lived in the house, they smelled a strong odor coming from the apartment and decided to investigate further. They then carried out a check of the perimeter of the house and found an open window which allowed them access.
Inside, the soldiers found the body of the elderly woman, lying on the ground; only one sheet partially covered her. The medical examiner intervened on site and confirmed that the 84-year-old’s death dates back to a few days earlier.
The investigations made it possible to immediately shed light on what happened, and thus to reach the 49-year-old daughter, cohabitant, responsible for the care of the elderly woman, on whom serious circumstantial elements were gathered regarding the fact that instead of looking after her she had moved away from the home to go on holiday in Abruzzo together with the two minor children, without giving the necessary care to the mother, thus abandoned to herself, without food or water and without any mobile phone to be able to call for help.
The elements collected therefore allowed the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Tivoli to issue an arrest warrant against the woman as a suspect in the crime, considering her to be seriously suspected of abandoning an incompetent person, a condition following which the elderly mother died. The 49-year-old was then stopped by the carabinieri of the Monterotondo company and taken to the Rebibbia prison where the investigating judge of the Tivoli court validated the arrest and ordered the measure of house arrest.
