Trapani | Martin Scorsese will film a docufilm on ancient shipwrecks in the Trapani area » Webmarte.tv

The famous American director Martin Scorsese, author of masterpieces such as Taxi Driver, New York, New York and Raging Bull, just to name a few, has chosen Sicily for his new film.

It is a documentary film based on a project by underwater archaeologist Lisa Briggs, professor and researcher at the University of Cranfield in England,

Councilor Francesco Paolo Scarpinato is satisfied:

“We enthusiastically welcomed the initiative by making available all the sites, archaeological parks and museums belonging to the department, considering the relevance of the project and the huge return on image for Sicily and its cultural heritage”.

The work will in fact be co-produced by the Department of Cultural Heritage of the Sicilian Region, by Sikelia Productions which is headed by Scorsese himself, by Sunk Costs Producions, Chad A.

Filming will be carried out this summer in the Strait of Sicily, with the collaboration of the Superintendence of the Sea for the entire marine and underwater part, but also in some sites in the Trapani and Palermo areas.

Some locations of the film set have been identified, others will be identified later.

The archaeological park of Selinunte, the Marsala-Lilibeo site, the Cave di Cusa, in Pantelleria, in Marausa, where the ‘Marausa 2’ wreck was recently found, will be involved.

And again, the Dancing Satyr museum in Mazara del Vallo, the Agostino Pepoli regional museum in Trapani, and the Salinas regional archaeological museum in Palermo.

Furthermore, among the chosen locations there are the Tonnara di Favignana, the island of Mozia, Erice and, in the province of Palermo, Polizzi Generosa, the town of origin of the director’s grandparents.
