The ‘German Language and Culture’ Award of Excellence dedicated to the late Gabriele Johanna Selder, established in 2018 by the Saracino-Selder families, has reached its seventh edition this year.

The Award, with the support of the Puglia Regional School Office, the V Territorial Area Office of Foggia, the collaboration of the University of Foggia and the patronage of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Rome and of the Italian-German cultural association Foggia ‘ Grimm’, wants to remember Professor Gabriele Johanna Selder, honor her commitment to the school and the strong bond with the students.

“It is a great opportunity for educational and cultural growth for young people who study foreign languages, future professionals of a now multicultural society and a global job market” underlines Professor Lucia Perrone Capano, Professor of German Literature and Director of the Language Center of the University of Foggia. All the most deserving students of the fifth classes of high schools and technical, commercial and professional secondary schools in Foggia and its province who study German participate in the award.

There are four scholarships up for grabs.

For the fifth classes of the high schools of Foggia and the province: €700 (seven hundred euros) for the first place; €500 (five hundred euros) for the Second Place. For the fifth classes of technical, commercial and professional secondary schools in Foggia and its province: €600 (six hundred euros) for the first place; €400 (four hundred euros) for the Second Place.

The written test which took place on 12 March 2024 at the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Foggia was evaluated by a commission made up of external teachers chosen by the University of Foggia. The outcome of the test will be transmitted by the commission to the President, who will assign the Excellence Awards in an in-person event on 16 April 2024, 11 am, in Room 1 of the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Foggia.
