Gerard Depardieu released after yesterday’s arrest: he is accused of sexual assault

The actor had been placed in a state of arrest and interrogated for hours at a police station in Paris over sexual assault allegations and was released last night

Gerard Depardieu has been released but will go to trial in October. His lawyer reports it. The French actor was summoned to the police station and then placed in custody in relation to accusations of sexual violence made against him by two women who claim to have been molested by the actor on the set of two films, one from 2014 and the other from 2021. The broadcaster Bfmtv had reported that yesterday morning the actor had been questioned in a Paris police station.

It is not the first time that the French artist has been accused of harassment by women. Last December, French Culture Minister Rima Abdul Malak even proposed that the Legion of Honor be taken away from him, but Depardieu was defended by President Emmanuel Macron and many other artists.

Depardieu has always professed his innocence and defended himself fromthe accusations made against him with an open letter, published last October in Le Figaro. “Never, ever have I abused a woman. Hurting a woman would be like kicking my mother in the womb,” wrote the internationally renowned actor. “To the media tribunal, to the lynching that was reserved for me, I only have my word to oppose,” he argued in his letter.
