GELA – The Port redeveloped and functional can become reality. This is one of the most important public interventions planned by the Municipality of Gela for the near future.

“We have finally signed the implementation agreement – he declared in a note the mayor of Gela, Lucio Greco – in recent years the reminder and awareness-raising action for the realization of this ambitious project has been continuous”.

An intervention that is destined to change the face of the port

The mayor continued in his note: “I thank the prefect, always at our side, the Sicilian Region, the companies of the Eni group and the Port System Authority. It is thanks to everyone’s commitment that we are finally able to look with confidence at this investment, which is destined to change the face of the port and give enormous potential to the territory and our view of the Mediterranean”.

The Port System Authority, in fact, will guarantee operation and speed in the implementation and management of the project and in finding the necessary financial resources.

“This is a further guarantee for the citizens and the municipal administration – comments Mayor Greco – by working together, we will finally be able to realize the dream of a large tourist and commercial port for the Municipality of Gela”.

Not just the port

Public works are also planned redevelopment on Montelungo: the agreement with the successful tenderer has been signed. The area will be completely redeveloped and will maintain its landscape appearance.

Among the many works planned are the creation of Museum of the Gela landing and the complete renovation of the old farm, with an access point for environmental education, wine shop and display of typical products through a kitchen system, station for Sunday show cooking.

The works must be completed by 2026. The company Emma Lavori was awarded the contract for 3.363 million euros, financed with the “Urban regeneration” program in the Pnrr. “Let’s continue to do facts and not talk” commented Mayor Greco.
