Zarco’s anger
While everyone in the Jerez paddock was understandably busy celebrating the fantastic battle that took place on the track between Pecco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez and analyzing the repercussions of Jorge Martin’s crash on the rankings, Behind the scenes a different confrontation was taking place but equally relevant: the one between Johann Zarcowho crashed during the race after a contact with Aleix Espargarò’s Aprilia, and the three-time world champion of the 500 class Freddie Spencer, Today top manager of the MotoGP Steward Panel. Already in the past the American had ended up in the crosshairs of criticism from riders and professionals for some evaluations of him, but this time Zarco hit very hard, launching fiery words on French TV towards the man who acts as ‘referee’ of the Grand Prix for the top class.
What an outburst against Spencer
“I told Freddie that I don’t like him and that he doesn’t do his job well“, the former Ducati rider explained without mincing words. Specifying his thoughts better with the journalists present in the press room, Zarco underlined how he didn’t like him at all the attitude shown by Spencer when he started reviewing the incident between Espargarò and Zarco together with the two drivers after the race: “It seemed to me that he was looking towards me to understand what I wanted – commented the transalpine speaking about Spencer – so I told him that he is not suitable for this job, because he doesn’t make decisions. He looked at us as if we were two children“. From what we know at that point Zarco was invited to leave Race Direction. At the moment, no decisions have been made by the stewards regarding the contact that eliminated the two drivers from the race.
