Olbia’s adventure in the national Serie C ends with a heavy 4 to 1. The goals were scored in the twentieth minute by Siligardi, quick to score from the edge of the area thanks to Van Der Want’s carelessness, nine minutes later it was Dal Monte’s turn who closed the first half with the advantage of the visiting team. In the second half Dal Monte again in the fifty-fourth, then Ragatzu in the eighty-third scores his ninth and finally, Zilli closes the celebration of the blue and white goals.
The curtain finally falls on the Serie C championship for Olbia who say goodbye to the third national division after a tournament full of events where everything and more really happened. A year characterized by a change in the team structure, with the arrival of the new Swiss ownership, and by three coaches who took turns on the bench: Leandro Greco, Marco Gaburro and Oberdan Biagioni. Despite the movement in and out of several players, the team was unable to avoid the last position in the table.
But sporting difficulties were not the only problem for Olbia. The strong tension between the old management and the new ownership also affected the season. Press releases, responses to press releases, injunctions and position statements have fueled a climate of constant conflict which has had a negative impact on the company, the team and the entire environment.
Despite the difficulties, the team has not lost the support of the fans, who have always supported it, even in the darkest moments of the season. When you are relegated, everyone is relegated! In the dark sea of this relegation, a certificate of trust is only deserved by the fans who have always supported the team even, and above all, in the darkest moments of this season, often taking on very long journeys and personal costs which are justified only in the love towards the White shirt.
The news. A match that has nothing more to say to the league table, Olbia is already thinking about the future and Spal, already safe, is organizing itself for the next tournament. Today’s match will be remembered for being the last match played by Daniele Dessena, today captain who says goodbye to playing football. We start with the hosts leaving out La Rosa (still injured), Biancu and Motolese, Fabbri, Zanchetta and Mameli play from the first minute, Catania forward on the left Nanni in the center and Ragatzu high on the right. The first real action of the match occurred in the fifteenth minute with a shot from outside the area by Zanchetta which ended up high.
Spal organizes itself, begins to weave interesting game plots characterized by precision, speed of execution and takes the lead in the twentieth minute. Siligardi collects a nice ball on the edge of the area, takes a step forward, takes aim and unleashes a not irresistible shot which goes into the bottom corner to the left of a distracted Van Der Want. Olbia felt the pinch and didn’t have time to regroup until nine minutes later Spal doubled their lead through Dal Monte. The first part of the match ends like this after a minute of added time.
The second half begins with two substitutions for Olbia, Biagioni sends Biancu and Schiavone onto the field, respectively in place of the injured Catania and Mameli but the white team continues to show obvious difficulties in the middle of the field and, above all, in attack where no it is possible to create an attacking action worthy of note. Spal, on the other hand, improved well on the pitch, also thanks to an Olbia team devoid of any ambition and so in the fifty-fourth minute they struck again; cross from the midfield, the ball arrives in the white area, they jump to head Fabbri and Dal Monte but it is the shoulder pad that has the upper hand and with a nice diagonal it scores Van Der Want for the third time. Olbia 0 Spal 3. It is the rule of three that has now accompanied the whites for several days. Two minutes later, Biagioni calls Daniele Dessena back to the bench who comes out moved amidst the hugs of his teammates and gives way to the young Gennari.
In the sixty-ninth minute a blaze from Montebugnoli on the left forces Meneghetti to take refuge in the corner and this represents Olbia’s only real opportunity of the match so far. Meanwhile, from the “Curva mare” chants are rising against the now ex-president Alessandro Marino, to whom the curve has never given any concessions. In the meantime, in the eighty-first minute, Nanni tries to kick the outgoing goalkeeper while running, a minute later Daniele Ragatzu takes possession of the ball on the left, dribbles past his opponent and with a curling shot puts it into the net, making his ninth center of the season and his 88th goal with Olbia.
At the end Spal made it four with a goal from Zilli following a cross from Antenucci. The match now drags wearily towards the final minutes without further shocks, the audience present can’t wait to put an end to this cursed season. The final whistle thus decreed a 4-1 in favor of the guests and one of the worst championships of their adventure in Serie C ended for Olbia. Now the word passes to the new management who called a press conference on Tuesday 30 April in which the top management of Swiss Pro, the company that owns the majority stake in Olbia Calcio, will participate; on this occasion, many points will be clarified and, above all, we will understand what path Olbia Calcio will have to take to return to the football that counts as soon as possible.
