Florence – Opportunities and problems of artificial intelligence. This is the challenge we face and which the book “Digital Sapiens” (Castelvecchi) by Nicola Lattanzi And Andrea Vestrucci, presented today at Palazzo del Pegaso. Together with the authors, the president of the regional council spoke, Antonio Mazzeoand the regional councilor for Economy and Tourism, Leonardo Marras.

“In an era that bombards us with data and information, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has entered our lives in a big way, prefiguring itself as a sort of offshoot of our brain”, we read in the book’s presentation sheet. “But if the challenges that AI offers us are exciting, there remains strong uncertainty in the face of a crucial question: to what extent can our decisions be governed by a digital tool? Nicola Lattanzi and Andrea Vestrucci answer this question, illustrating the benefits and dangers inherent in the interaction between Sapiens and Artificial Intelligence. Making decisions with AI is possible, provided you know how it works and exploit its potential. A fascinating journey into the coexistence between human and artificial intelligence, an essential read for those who want to prepare for the evolutionary leap that AI represents for our species.”

“Artificial intelligence is marking the lives of all of us and we need, as I often say, for politics and institutions to have the ability to anticipate the future, to direct it and this moment of in-depth analysis also serves to understand which trajectories are to follow ”, declared the president of the regional council Antonio Mazzeo. “Artificial intelligence, like any technological innovation, has opportunities and risks and we have the task of knowing how to choose the opportunities to create better and safer work opportunities”.

“It is a contribution that helps us not to be afraid but to be aware of how to best use new technologies and to know what the real space of autonomy is with respect to choices”, said the regional councilor for economy and tourism Leonardo Marras. “This is a topic that also affects the world of our businesses, which in the latest regional call for advanced and qualified services were encouraged to invest in new technologies and over half of the applications submitted were linked to artificial intelligence”.

“The book talks about artificial intelligence, but asking itself a question: what changes in the way we make decisions using it. It opens up very new perspectives and scenarios and it is interesting to observe that in the future we will live with a more electronic brain that integrates with the biological one, which is making us discover that decisions by sapiens have never been taken in this way”, he said Nicola Lattanzi.

What the book aims to do, as he explains Andrea Vestrucci, “is to provide readers with the tools to answer three fundamental questions of our contemporary world: what is artificial intelligence; what our decisions are; and how artificial intelligence impacts our decision-making processes, what are the risks and above all what are the remedies for these risks”.
