A school trip to Old Harry Rocks in Dorset, UK, came close to turn into tragedy when a fifteen-year-old fell from a cliff about 20 meters high. The accident occurred on Thursday 20 June, while the boy was posing for a photo. The young student, on a trip with his class and the geography teacher, was on the edge of the cliff when, according to the testimonies of his classmates, he suddenly “disappeared” from their sight. The alarm was immediately raised and emergency services rushed to the scene.

The lifeboat crew, arriving on the beach below, found the boy standing, practically unharmed. Incredibly, the fifteen-year-old had landed on a bed of pebbles at the base of the cliff, miraculously bringing back only a cut on the head and a few scratches on the back. Ambulance medical staff who arrived at the scene at Knoll Beach, Studland, also confirmed the boy did not require hospital treatment. His incredible luck amazed everyone present, including the teachers who, initially terrified, breathed a sigh of relief when they saw him get up and walk towards the shore.

Ian Brown, from Swanage Coastguard, highlighted how the boy ignored warning signs warning visitors not to go near the edge of the cliff. “They told us that he asked a friend to take a photo of him“Brown explained, adding that it was unclear whether the boy lost his balance or slipped.
