The story
On the evening of Friday, June 28 in Utica, New York, UsaAccording to the police, the officers had stopped Mway, together with a friend of his age, as part of an investigation into an armed robbery. One of the officers tells the two that he needs to search them to make sure they don’t have any weapons in their possession but Mway immediately runs away.
In some frames of the video, which the Utica Police Department froze, the running boy appears to point the gun at pursuing officers. Officers believed it was a real gun, police said, but it was later determined to be a replica Glock 17 Gen 5 with a detachable magazine.
“During a struggle on the ground” with the boy, one of the officers fired a single shot that hit the boy in the chest, Utica Police Chief Mark Williams said. The boy was immediately rescued by officers and taken to Wynn Hospital, where he later died.
