New Dutch government sworn in, Schoof prime minister – Breaking News

The new Dutch government, the result of the coalition agreement between the sovereignists of Geert Wilders’ PVV, the farmers’ party BBB, the center-right formation New Social Contract (NSC) and the liberals of the VVD, went to the King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander, to be sworn in as the country’s new executive. The prime minister will be the technocrat Dick Schoof, 67-year-old former head of the Dutch secret services.

After the swearing-in ceremony, which is taking place at the Royal Palace Huis ten Bosch in The Hague, the new government will officially take office. The largest share of ministries, according to the coalition agreement, has been assigned to Wilders’ party, which won the elections over 200 days ago. The PVV will lead, among others, the Ministry of Economy (with Dirk Beljaarts), the Ministry of Migration (with Marjolein Faber) and the Ministry of Infrastructure (with Barry Madlener). The BBB leads 2 ministries, including that of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (with Femke Wiersma). The VVD, the conservative party that represented former Prime Minister Mark Rutte, will manage 4 important portfolios: Sophie Hermans will be Minister for Climate, Eelco Heinen will lead the Ministry of Finance, Ruben Brekelmans the Ministry of Defense and David Van Weel the Ministry of Justice. Finally, the New Social Contract will be given four ministries, including that of Foreign Affairs, which will be led by Casper Veldkamp.
