«Died after the accident, now we need answers from the Prosecutor’s Office»

«The new testimony that has emerged on Monday’s accident certainly causes dismay in our community: in Malgrate, Luisa Spreafico was very well known and esteemed»: the testimony on the minutes following the fatal accident of the 69-year-old along the Sp Colle-Galbiate, is from the former deputy mayor and current municipal councilor of Ello, Gianluigi Valsecchi; published exclusively by “La Provincia”, it is commented by the spokesman for the Municipality of Malgrate Francantonio Corti: «First of all, and in general, we spontaneously invite (to everyone and in any circumstance) to immediately report to the police any fact of which they are witnesses: whether it is an accident, theft or anything else, any element can benefit the investigation and, specifically, prevent a load of tension certainly experienced by our community, with the investigators looking for a hit-and-run driver, while now from Valsecchi we learn of fragility at play and that the driver would have gone back to call for help and watch over the victim. We hope, even more so – says Corti – that the “further investigations” cited by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, of a “technical nature, aimed at the complete and correct reconstruction of what happened, will be concluded as soon as possible. The Malgratese community, above all else, hopes that dear Luisa can find peace, that is, to be able to accompany her as soon as possible (after the painful step of the autopsy, scheduled for a few days) on her last earthly journey”. In the meantime, the debate is still ongoing on the circumstances in which she was hit: “In the case in question, I would not see any causal link – intervenes the provincial councilor delegated to Roads, Mattia Micheli – between the accident that occurred on Monday in Bartesate on the Sp Galbiate-Colle and the presence of tall grass along the shoulder; more generally, we are working on it everywhere”; Micheli takes stock of the situation after the dangers of walking along the Sp without a sidewalk and in tall grass have been repeatedly commented on by citizens on social media. “The Province – says Micheli – is careful about its roads, keeping in mind that the territory is vast, the budget is necessarily limited and, above all, this year’s weather is a further critical element: in fact, it gives no respite, with continuous rains, even violent ones, which, when they stop, start again the next day, interrupting all planning. Furthermore, the alternation of water and sun itself compromises the duration of the cuts. We – Micheli informs – have identified the contractor for about a month and a half; generally, we manage to guarantee two or three mowings per year, scheduled on all provincial roads and, therefore, certainly also on the Galbiate-Colle”. However, the councilor of Ello – and also vice provincial coordinator of Forza Italia – Valsecchi accuses: “If pedestrians are forced to walk on the roadway due to the neglect of the shoulders, in my opinion, as a former administrator, I would not be so comfortable in calling the public administration free of all responsibility. The Province may have budget limitations and difficulties, but at least the Galbiate-Colle (and other similar ones) must be a priority: it has no sidewalk, but curves and counter-curves, and is notorious for its high accident rate, also due to the slope and the shape of the hairpin bends: all that’s missing is for pedestrians to have to avoid the jungle of grass».
