It is Ugolino by Luca Melis, from Villaputzu, the king of the second Regional Horse Show of Sarcidano, organized by the Breeders Association of the Sardinia Region, the Municipality of Laconi and the horse racing association. The event took place last weekend in Santa Sofia, a hamlet of Laconi. The event, eagerly awaited by enthusiasts and others, was attended by 20 equines presented by nine companies from Sardinia.
Ugolino, a 10-year-old stallion, was also ranked first in the male category. Second was Dante di Funtanamela by Simone Coni, by Sant’Andrea Frius, and third was Enea, also by Funtanamela.
In the female category, Ernestina di Funtanamela from the Municipality of Laconi won, followed by Orsola di Luca Melis from Villaputzu and third place went to Quiama from Ippica Giarina Oristanese: the gait of the horses was evaluated both at a walk and at a trot. But not only prizes. The experts have also evaluated other horses presented by different breeders and not registered in the competition with the aim of verifying the possession of the breed standards to be able to be registered in the genealogical book of the Sarcidano horse, an ancient and rare breed.
