Work and green transition: European automotive debate in Brescia

“The green transition in the automotive sector: companies and unions in the European challenge” It is the title of theinitiative of Fim CISL provincial that tomorrow, Wednesday, July 3rdwill gather at the Paolo VI Centre in via Gezio Calini, 30 in BresciaEuropean trade unionists and entrepreneurs for a discussion on one of the most important and controversial issues for the development of a strategic industrial and employment sector such as the automotive sector.

The conference program revolves around two round tables.

The one in the morning – The Green Transition in Germany and Italy. Territorial Experiences and Projects in the Automotive Sector – will see the presence of Renato CottiPiccinelli (technical director of Streparava), Thymian Bussemer (Head of Human Resources Volkswagen Group), Thomas Balzer (trade unionist IG Metall and chairman of the European Works Council of Opel/Vauxhall), Daniel Gregori (FIM CISL unionist in Streparava), Stephen Boschini (national coordinator Fim CISL for the automotive sector) and Maximilian Locher (IG Metall Baden-Wurttemberg).

The afternoon round table – The union and employers’ associations facing the automotive challenge – will put in dialogue Ferdinand Uliano (general secretary Fim CISL), Stephen Franchi (general director of Federmeccanica) and Benjamin Denis (IndustriAll Europe).

The stakes

“In Italy – we read in the presentation poster of the conference – a too rapid green transition risks jeopardizing 70 thousand jobs in metalworking component companies.
At the same time, the green transition leads companies to evaluate and act more with respect to the environmental impact of the industrial process as a whole. and the related responsibilities towards the environment itself.
Companies, industry associations and trade unions are asking institutions to avoid heavy backlash.
The aim of the two round tables is to understand the positions of the various social parties (territorial, national and European), facilitate their comparison in a constructive and participatory manner and highlight the requests, not only towards national governments, but also towards the newly elected European Community”.

The intense day of work will open with greeting speeches of the general secretaries of the CISL metalworkers of Brescia, Stephen Olivariand of Lombardy, Mirko Dolzadelliand of Barbara Arsieninational manager of the international office of Fim CISL.
