Demolition of the former Giardino di Poppa restaurant on the Pisan coast

Demolition work began on Monday morning in Marina di Pisa on the structure along the Litoranea road that houses the former ‘Giardino di Poppa’ restaurant. The area, which is located on the border between Marina and the beginning of Tirrenia, is owned by the Municipality of Pisa, which in the past had granted it to the company, then revoked it in 2021 for breaches of the contract and for the construction of illegal works. The structure, now in a state of abandonment and the object of abuse, for which the company was sentenced by the Court to pay damages, was also affected in 2023 by a fire that had endangered the green space in which it is located. The removal and remediation work, for the amount of over 40 thousand euros, was entrusted to a specialized company that will take care of the demolition of the structure, the removal and disposal of waste, as well as the restoration, cleaning and safety of the entire area.

“With the month of July – says Mayor Michele Conti – the demolition and reclamation work of the area along the coast at the beginning of the town of Tirrenia, where the now dilapidated structure that once housed the restaurant is located, will be completed. An intervention that adds to the many done by the municipal administration, including the removal of several shacks in the Calambrone area, the recovery of the former Ciclilandia green area in Tirrenia and the restyling of the squares of Marina, as part of a gradual and comprehensive redevelopment of the coast. The area is located right next to the portal that marks the entrance to the Bagno Lido, built in the 1930s by engineer Federigo Severini, a portal protected by the Superintendence and of historical-architectural value: another element that enriches with historical importance an area of value, such as the beautiful avenue of the Litoranea that runs along the town and leads to the beaches. All those who frequent the coast and the beach resorts, arriving in Tirrenia in the next few weeks, will find the area redeveloped and returned to the decorum it deserves”.
