An autopsy was performed on the body of Vera Slepoj, the seventy-year-old psychologist found dead in her home in Padua last week.

The Prosecutor’s Office entrusted the task to the professor Raffaele De Caropathologist at the University of Padua. «The operations have begun but the expert has taken 90 days to communicate the findings”, said the lawyer Massimo Munari, who made the complaint on behalf of the Slepoj family. Once the autopsy examination was completed, permission for burial was granted: the funeral will therefore be celebrated on Friday 28 June at 3.30 pm.

The autopsy was requested by the family to have a precise picture of the causes that led to the death of the psychologist, who enjoyed excellent health.

In particular, she had recently undergone a small operation to remove a cyst from her knee, following which a noticeable bruise had appeared.

Two days before her death, Vera Slepoj went to a doctor to try to remove the blood clot. Her family has doubts that it may have been an embolism that killed her and for this reason they want to understand if there is a connection with the surgery.

On Thursday 20 June the psychotherapist had been to a Padua Lions dinner. “She was fine, as usual,” friends and acquaintances testified. She returned home around 11pm, but the next morning the maid found her lifeless in the bathroom, still dressed as she was the night before. The Prosecutor’s Office has opened a case without suspects on the hypothesis of manslaughter.

The family

The Slepoj family wants to know the causes of the death of the Paduan psychologist and writer Vera. The Padua prosecutor’s office has opened the case an investigation into manslaughterfollowing the complaint presented by the family.

About that, the family specifies in a note: «We would like to point out that it is in our interest to know the causes of Vera Slepoj’s sudden death and therefore, through a complaint, we have referred the matter to the Judicial Authority which ordered the autopsy».

«Every conjecture that is circulating – the note continues –, regarding the reasons and causes that led the family to this choice, at this moment it cannot be considered plausible, because only after the investigations that will derive from the post-mortem examination, will it be possible to have an understanding of the causes that led to the death of the psychotherapist. The public interest in our painful story is understandable, also given the notoriety of our relative and the Slepoj family thanks all the journalists who are doing their job commendably. However, we ask you to wait for the results of the ongoing investigations, the only ones that will be able to clarify the facts beyond any conjecture. We also inform you that the lawyer has been appointed. Massimo Munari to protect the family in managing relations with the Judicial Authority and with the mass media”.
