CATANIA DEDICATES A SQUARE TO FIREFIGHTERS KILLED ON DUTY

The Firefighters who died in service have since yesterday had a square dedicated to them in Catania. The space, located in via delle Ondine in the Tondicello della Playa neighborhood, was inaugurated in an emotional ceremony, marking a significant moment for the Firefighters Corps.

This long-awaited initiative honors the 13 firefighters who lost their lives on duty in the city of Catania.

The most touching moment of the ceremony was the unveiling of the commemorative plaque, entrusted to the children and brother of Dario Ambiamonte, one of the fallen firefighters. Ambiamonte lost his life in 2018 together with his colleague Giorgio Grammatico following an explosion.

This symbolic act paid homage to the sacrifice of all fallen firefighters, remembering their courage and dedication.

Provincial Commander Salvatore Tafaro presided over the ceremony, which was also his last official one before retiring on July 1st. Tafaro expressed words of deep gratitude and respect for his fallen colleagues, underlining the importance of remembering and honoring those who gave their lives to protect the community.

The naming of the square represents a permanent tribute to the firefighters of Catania, a place where the memory of their sacrifices will continue to live on and inspire future generations.
