bridge empty again and city mourning

2

The Roman bridge in Premariacco is empty for the first time in twenty-four days. Empty because the searches for Patrizia, Bianca and Cristian ended, a few hundred meters from where their tragedy began on Friday 31 May. Twenty-three days of complex, difficult and exhausting searches, which made it possible to return all three bodies of the young people to their families.

Yesterday shortly after 3pm the helicopter carrying Cristian’s body took off, to the desperation of his brother Petru, who still hoped to be able to find his brother alive. The body of the twenty-five year old was in a ravine, in the most complex part of the river, under a gigantic boulder and partially covered by wood and gravel. In an area that has already been visited before, but always with the presence of water. And it was the divers who found him who searched for him for twenty-three days, after trying to save the three boys from the flood wave. On Thursday the Prefect had established the interruption of the searches in water and the continuation of the operations only with molecular dogs. Instead the Fire Brigade wanted to make one more attempt, an attempt that was successful.

After recovery, the body was taken to the sports field of Orsaria, for an initial autopsy examination, and from there to the mortuary cells of the Udine hospital, where it still remains. Thus, a chapter of the Natisone story ends bitterly, but that of the Prosecutor’s Office still remains open, with the investigation that will determine whether the three boys, in that dramatic half hour on Friday 31 May, could have been saved.
