An operational meeting was held in the Prefecture to establish ways of managing the water emergency that is affecting the city of Sciacca, but also the rest of the territory of the province of Agrigento.

The meeting was attended by three of the four representatives of the tanker companies, the deputy commissioner Cesare Castelli, the deputy commissioner Francesco Marino, the president of the Board of Directors of Aica Settimio Cantone and the vice mayor of Sciacca, Valeria Gulotta.

The meeting was coordinated by vice prefect Fabio Magnano and follows the summit held at the police station of the spa city. Aica will carry out a census of the tankers in order to contact them effectively. Two operating methods have been established: one for those who have a contract with Aica and are supplied regularly, and another for those who have no contractual relationship:

Users with an Aica contract: those who have a contract with Aica and need water will be able to request the intervention of the tanker by calling Aica directly. The latter will contact the tanker companies following a pre-established list. However, users have the possibility to choose a trusted company, subject to agreement with Aica. The user will pay the transport to the tanker while the cost of the water will be charged to the bill by Aica.

Users without an Aica contract: those who do not have an existing contract with Aica will have to directly contact the tanker companies listed on the Aica and Municipality websites. The companies will supply the water which will be paid directly to Aica, while the transport will be paid to the truck driver who will be provided with a form with all the necessary details, such as supply address, user details, cubic meters of water supplied and cost thereof.

This service initially implemented in Sciacca will also be extended to the other municipalities in the province managed by Aica, starting from the capital city of Agrigento. Access to the service can be made by telephone call to the Call Center of the consortium company, at number 092244153, or through a specific form to be completed and transmitted online published on the Aica institutional website.

Guarantee of healthy water and transparency in services. “All the tankers registered guarantee that the water comes from Aica, thus ensuring the healthiness of the supply. Calling unregistered tankers is equivalent to contacting unauthorized entities, with unverified origin of the water. It has been decided to direct the community to only contact the registered truck drivers, even for those who do not have a contract with Aica”, reads the note from Aica.

Workers also on duty on weekends. Aica has ensured that at the only collection point in Sciacca, located in the Sovareto district, a worker will be present from 7am to 1pm and 1pm to 7pm. Furthermore, to deal with the water emergency, Aica is also preparing the service during the weekend, to guarantee the continuity of water supplies.
