The driver, a 59-year-old woman, managed to escape from the passenger compartment but the deadly effect of the flames, according to the health workers who intervened on the scene, was expressed on almost 80 percent of the body. Together with the Ares 118 ambulances, the firefighters intervened on site to put out the fire and make the plant safe, and the agents of the IV Tiburtino Group of the Local Police. The petrol pump attendant also had to be helped due to illness.

The woman was intubated and in intensive care at the Sant’Eugenio Large Burns Center where she was transported by air ambulance.

The car was seized while investigations to reconstruct what happened are underway.
