The appeal is also for collaboration from citizens to prevent any outbreaks or intervene in good time: for this reason, the mayor of Sermoneta Giuseppina Giovannoli, to deal with the summer fire alarm, has issued a specific ordinance in recent days.
“It is not enough to have prepared and updated the municipal civil protection plan, nor is the tireless work of the civil protection volunteers of Sermoneta, the firefighters and the local associations sufficient”, declare the administration which addresses the citizens directly.
Mayor Giovannoli’s provision takes note of the declaration of the “state of serious danger for fires”, foreseen by the Lazio Region until 15 October and establishes a series of bans to prevent the risk of fires. Specifically, it is forbidden to light fires of any kind, open or clean firebreaks with the use of fire, throw cigarettes or any lit material that could create an immediate fire hazard, light fireworks, unless authorized in advance, release lanterns with flame into the air and adopt all responsible behaviors that can prevent the spread of fires. The ordinance also requires lot owners to remove weeds and highly flammable waste in areas exposed to possible fires.
Owners, tenants and managers of land subject to harvesting or mowing will then have to create fire protection strips by 30 June, while owners or managers of forests will have to clean and restore the firebreaks.
The local police and law enforcement agencies will verify compliance with the ordinance which has also been sent to the bodies managing the roads, railways and waterways that cross the municipal territory, as well as Enel, Eni, Italgas, Acqualatina. Finally, concludes the Municipality, “anyone who has news of a fire in the countryside or in the woods has the obligation to immediately notify the single emergency number 112, the Fire Brigade (115) or the regional civil protection operations room 803.555.
