In his editorial on Sportitalia.it, director Michele Criscitiello intervened to defend the President of Lazio, Claudio Lotito, from the recent protests that took place in the streets of Rome. The Biancocelesti fans harshly criticized their president, but Criscitiello wanted to clarify the situation.
Criticisms of Claudio Lotito
Last Friday, the streets of Rome were the scene of a symbolic “funeral” for Claudio Lotito. Although protests and demonstrations are legitimate, they must have meaning and logic. Criscitiello recognized two main points of criticism: the first concerns Lotito’s personality, not exactly charismatic (but he is an entrepreneur and not a comedian), and the second concerns the technical choices, such as the hiring of Marco Baroni on the bench, the which is more used to winning in Serie B or saving clubs in Serie A. It is understandable that the transition from managers like Tare and Sarri to Baroni could confuse the fans.
Lotito’s report on Lazio
According to Criscitiello, Lazio fans have little to complain about, considering that the club is in good hands. Nobody seems interested in buying the club and, even if an investment fund arrived, there is no guarantee that it would do better than Lotito. Claudio Lotito took over a bankrupt club and brought it back to the top of Italian football, guaranteeing stability and success.
Future Prospects and Comparisons with Other Places
Last season, Lazio reached second place in Serie A and this year they advanced to the round of 16 of the Champions League. The protests therefore seem to lack a real and concrete basis. In other places, the fans could only envy such results. Without Lotito, Salernitana began a long descent, and even today they miss him as a saving figure.
