The rain, which continued to fall after last Friday’s storm, jeopardized the immediate resolution of the consequences caused by the collapse of the Villa Sironi wall, which occurred precisely that evening.
«For the reconstruction of the wall – informs the mayor, Chiara Narciso – we will have to follow the instructions of the Superintendency. At the moment, the decision is to preclude access to Via Roncaccio for fear of possible further subsidence and, for the same reason, to also close the entrance to the Villa Sironi park to the public.”
Therefore, if the weather clears up, for now the citizens will not have this shaded and panoramic green lung at their disposal but, what’s more, the events to which it usually serves as the backdrop will be skipped: “Chill in Villa” will not be able to be set there, successfully organized in previous editions by the youth group Ogvn, which has therefore already announced that it is looking for a new location. Furthermore, at risk is the theater show “La piccolo”, whose rich program was made public in recent days and which, in all likelihood, will have to be rewritten. «The wall, when it collapsed, did not take with it portions of the garden of Villa Sironi – specifies the mayor – As already mentioned, the river of rain exerted pressure at the point where the wall bends, knocking down a section, which however revealed that it was not perform any containment function. On the other hand, it is not possible to keep the park open to the public because anyone, intrigued (or any children playing) were to lean out, would fall a good couple of meters into the void; and also because the wall collapsed at the point where the Villa’s driveway passes. Therefore, even the transport of costumes, displays, musical instruments and anything else cannot be carried out as long as the parapet is missing and the edge is sagging”.
At this rate, civil weddings – which constitute an income and contribute to the image of the Municipality – celebrated in the Villa and other cultural initiatives are also going up in smoke. The problem of via Roncaccio is no less significant, with very narrow access to several homes. «They are not isolated – specifies the mayor – as they can be reached from via Bagnolo: it is a solution that had already been adopted last year, when the works on the aqueduct were undertaken. Vehicles can pass by passing the wash house, proceeding towards the chapel. Certainly – Narciso recognizes – it is not a route without difficulties: technically, it is a dirt cycle/pedestrian path; on this occasion, cycle tourists are also invited to pay the utmost attention, precisely because in this period it could happen that they come across some cars”. Via Roncaccio is also forbidden to pedestrians and, for them, the walk from the wash house takes a long time; alternatively, there is the Sentiero delle Scalotte, which is still challenging.
