A 50-year-old worker was reported for setting fire to the Islamic center in Montello, province of Bergamo and for threatening the town’s mayor with death. The investigations
The accusation for the 50 years old Bergamasco a fire was set at the entrance of the Islamic center of the Pakistani community of Montello, (Bergamo). The event occurred a week ago and the man, a worker, was identified by the Calcinate police thanks to the images of video surveillance cameras.
Near the Islamic center targeted by the 50-year-old, the men also found a writing made with red paint where, presumably the man, wrote: “Montello no more mosques, mayor dead”.
The reconstruction of the facts
According to the reconstruction carried out by carabinierithe worker would have reached the area in his car, then, with his face covered by a helmet, would have gone into action by throwing flammable liquid – ethyl alcohol and petrol – at the entrance of the Islamic mosque.
In a short time the flames licked the entrance of the religious structure. Help from the center was immediate with the person responsible managing to put out the fire. Fortunately, the flames only damaged the doormat and the umbrella stand at the entrance, but without immediate intervention the fire could have spread further, causing worse damage.

The concern of the religious community
The affair believed to have been created by religious hatred, as investigators explain and as reported today the Day: “great concern and alarm in the local community and believers.”
The man was reported but in his home, the police found both the tank with the flammable liquid used by the 50-year-old and the clothes worn on the day of the episode. The men of the Carabinieri declared, at the end of the operation: “Social cohesion and mutual respect are values to be protected to ensure peaceful and harmonious coexistence within every community”.
