REGIO EMILIA – Traffic police and firefighters at work on Wednesday afternoon on the A1 in the San Martino Nord service area, on the motorway, where a solvent spill from a transiting articulated lorry had been reported. The intervention also involved the staff of the Autostrade companies.
The Polstrada patrol ascertained that the spill was caused by a rupture of a tank – carrying approximately 800 liters of the dangerous solvent – placed on the body of an articulated lorry that was moving it from the province of Modena to that of Milan and, after having found irregularities in the modes of transport compared to the provisions of the ADR regulations (European agreement relating to the international transport of dangerous goods by route), sanctioned the driver by withdrawing his driving license and seizing the vehicle.
The safety operation, coordinated on site by the Parma Fire Brigade, saw the active presence of ARPA (Regional Agency for Environmental Protection) personnel, the Fire Brigade and Highways personnel who remained at the site of the accident until the area was reclaimed with the removal of the absorbent impregnated with the dangerous substance and led to the emptying of the dangerous liquid still remaining in the tank.
