The coordination of the ‘Let’s Untie the Perugia Knot’ committees is once again making itself heard, opposing the construction of the seven kilometer road variant between Collestrada and Madonna del Piano. In a note, in fact, the coordination made up of associations and businesses states that “to date, 17 thousand signatures have been collected to enthusiastically support an intelligent alternative that can be implemented quickly, less expensive and respectful of the context, as opposed to the proposed solution” .

A communication that, not by chance, arrives five days after the election of the new mayor, Vittoria Ferdinandi, who during the electoral campaign had expressed many doubts about this work that would cost about half a billion euros and whose final project has already been drawn up. Ferdinandi has repeatedly recalled that the project is not funded, but the Region insists on closing the matter as soon as possible.

“There has been an extraordinary response from citizens – the coordination writes – to one of the most controversial and debated projects of our time. This ‘considerable public interest’ cannot be distorted by so many attempts to manipulate public opinion and divide communities. We have in fact highlighted many times (without ever being denied) that we are talking about a paltry saving of 11% of traffic on the Perugia-Bettolle link. If the project that some politicians intend to carry forward were to be realized – continues ‘let’s dissolve the Perugia Node’ – , the result would be useless and devastating: inconvenience related to construction sites for many years, a large concrete scar, compromised aquifers, over 4,000 trees cut down… but the same traffic and the same pollution. We therefore want the communities of the area to remain united and for a solution to the traffic problems to be found.

We continue to promote dialogue with the institutions, the competent authorities and any citizen who wishes. Finally, we want to express our gratitude – concludes the coordination – by reporting a fragment written, over 60 years ago, by far-sighted politicians: ‘…the aforementioned area has considerable public interest because, highlighting the picturesque beauty of the complex formed by the buildings that rise on the hill and from the large rows of majestic pine trees, it constitutes one of the most important panoramic features south of Perugia, enjoyable for those traveling along the central Umbria state road n. 75…’.
