(AGENPARL) – Wed 26 June 2024 The fire on 20 June 2024 of brushwood, reeds and waste which broke out along the Tiber floodplain area between Via Asciano and the Ponte della Magliana viaduct has rekindled the debate and the fears of residents on the presence and management of illegal and abusive settlements in the area.
It is essential first of all to guarantee the protection of people’s safety by avoiding any form of potential aggravation and reiteration of the phenomenon as well as to prepare an immediate waste removal intervention and the installation by ARPA Lazio of a high volume sampler for the appropriate measurements of air quality.
It remains essential that the XI Marconi Group of the Local Police, the Roma of the clearance interventions of the illegally occupied areas and the subject of illegal landfills in the territory, given and considering that such fires and toxic blazes have been repeated systematically and for years in the area in question of the last event, as also happened during the ten years of the Presidency of the Lazio Region by Nicola Zingaretti.
In fact, the Lazio Region – on the indication of the Mobility, Transport, Territorial Protection, Waste Cycle, State Property and Heritage Department – will take care of the cleaning of the floodplain area on the Tiber river between Via Asciano and the Ponte della Magliana viaduct, but the Regional Law 53 of 1998, provides that the regional body deals with the defense of its and its inhabitants from floods and not with problems relating to illegal construction, urban decoration, waste management and other health and hygiene aspects.
In this regard, we denounce and point out – in order to avoid similar episodes – other illegal settlements and waste dumps in: Via Isacco Newton (under the Portuense overpass and under Via Alberese), Lungotevere Gassman in Marconi (parking area), Via della Magliana under the Roma Fiumicino viaduct, Hill in Monte Cucco al Trullo, Via della Magliana 856 height of the FL1 Muratella stop, Via Candoni height of Villaggio della Solidarietà, Riva Pian due torri (cycle path) in Magliana, Via Rudolf Diesel (parking area and FL1 station) at Ponte Galeria and Via di Castel Malnome between Via della Muratella and via di Ponte Galeria.
For safety, it is then considered necessary and appropriate to always convene the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security – in which the Mayor of Rome also participates in the areas of competence of the local authority for the better performance of the function of public safety – also through urgent measures to prevent and eliminate serious dangers to public safety.
It will be our responsibility to collaborate to restore decorum to the area of Via Asciano a Magliana by indicating the best strategies for its redevelopment without forgetting, however, the many illegal occupations in recent years in the area which have caused problems of public order, decorum, hygiene and environmental protection in the the left’s total indifference between permissive policies and no management of illegal settlements for the homeless.
