Everything is ready in Lanciano for the second edition of the Emiliano Giancristofaro award, ethnologist, essayist and scholar of Abruzzo folklore, who passed away in June 2022.

The event organized by Unpli Abruzzo, in collaboration with the Municipality of Lanciano and Rivista Abruzzese, is scheduled for Saturday 29 June, from 9.30 am, in the Diocleziano auditorium. There will be an awards ceremony for the universal civil service volunteers, chosen from among the 46 in service in the 27 Pro Loco offices in Abruzzo.

«The award was intended to remember the commitment made by the scholar from Lanciano in favor of the Pro loco – explains the vice president of Unpli Abruzzo, Sergio Carafa – and in particular in support of the young civil service volunteers who over the years, hosted by the Unpli network , they became closer to the culture, folklore and traditions of Abruzzo”.

The project papers of universal civil service volunteers from the Pro loco Unpli Abruzzo offices in service in the year 2023/2024 will be rewarded, on the theme of the annual project “Idioms and dialectal expressions in the immaterial culture of Abruzzo”, in the wake of the professor’s studies Giancristofaro.

“This award is not intended to be a super competition for us – underlined Carafa – but a way to give due recognition to the work of our tireless volunteers and to remember a friend of the Pro Loco and a great ethnographer, such as Emiliano Giancristofaro”.

The first three classified among the written papers will be given respectively a voucher of 50, 100 and 200 euros for the purchase of books and a certificate of participation for each volunteer of the institution they belong to. A special mention will go to the video documentaries section.

“We are happy that the summer program of the Municipality of Lanciano is starting with a cultural event of this magnitude – concluded the vice mayor and councilor for culture, Danilo Ranieri – I am linked to Prof Emiliano by many memories and it is really nice that they can there are initiatives that want to remember him just as he liked it. He has done so much for our communities, now it is our turn to carry on his work.”

Finally, the works will be evaluated by a technical commission composed of the Italian professor and editor-in-chief of the Rivista Abruzzese, Lucia Di Virgilio, the journalist Enrico Giancristofaro, the doctor in Classical Literature, Marco Di Francesco, the deputy mayor and councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Lanciano, Danilo Ranieri and the regional president of Italia Nostra, Pierluigi Vinciguerra.
