Massa Marittima (Grosseto). Massa Marittima confirmed Cycling municipality with the score of a bike smile, assigned by the Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation (Fiab) for the commitment demonstrated in promoting policies in favor of cycling.
It is the fifth consecutive year that the yellow flag of cycle municipalities.
“We are happy and satisfied with this recognition – says the mayor Irene Marconi –, also because it is a confirmation that cannot be taken for granted: Fiab renews its trust in the municipal administrations only after careful and rigorous evaluations which give value to the flags assigned, providing an objective idea of the degree of cycleability of the individual territory and encouraging the municipal administrations to commit themselves more and more ”.
The network of Fiab cycle municipalities is a project born 7 years ago to stimulate cycling mobility. There are four areas of evaluation: urban mobility (urban cycle paths/infrastructure, traffic calming and speed), cycle tourism (tourist cycle paths); governance (urban mobility policies and services), communication and promotion.
“If cycle tourism is our strong point, we will continue to invest in it in the coming years – goes on Irene Marconi -, however, it is difficult to find margins improvement compared to urban cycling mobility due to the very shape of Massa Marittima. We thank Fiab for having created the network of cycle municipalities, which accompanies the administrations in a virtuous path on cycling policies.”
