The Karate star Genocchio shone at the Italian Beginners Championship (class of 2011 and 2012), which took place in recent days in Ostia.
Italian Novice vice champion Isabel Genocchio won silver
If all the athletes stood out for their excellent performances, it was the Cologne girl Isabel Genocchio (daughter of art, since her father is Simone Genocchiowho together with his brother Mauro he is on the staff of the school founded by his father Frank, as well as in the technical team of the national karate team) to give the Rovate school the most important title: the silver medal. The 12-year-old (she will turn 13 in a month) was therefore crowned vice-champion of Italy (in the 56kg Beginners category): a more than deserved result, welcomed with satisfaction veiled by a touch of regret given by the knowledge that the gold it wasn’t unattainable, in fact, far from it.
«I’m very happy with how the match went until the pool final (she won five consecutive matches, all very well ed.) – explained the young athlete from the Rovate club – I knew that the opponent was within my reach because I had her already beaten in the past.”
A situation which, instead of benefiting her, ultimately worked against her: Isabel, in fact, perhaps due to too much confidence, was unable to recover the one point disadvantage she had gained halfway through the match and express herself to her full potential. “I have to work more on clarity,” underlined the 12-year-old, demonstrating great maturity despite her very young age.
“Looking at her future career, perhaps it’s for the best: if you have the hunger to improve and win, you grow much faster”, commented her father Simone, who followed Isabel’s performance from the corner with extreme pride: “I give it to her I had to!”.
Isabel Genocchio began practicing karate at the age of 5, when she was still in kindergarten: «I liked it straight away – explained the young woman – I also practice hip hop dance». And the school? “I’m doing well there too,” she revealed. In short, she is not only a good athlete but also a model girl.
If the last bell has already rung, as far as karate is concerned the season is not over yet: the next competition will be on June 21st. And Isabel, having archived her experience at the Championships, is ready to give her best.
