On the occasion of the world congress of cable transport, the South Tyrolean company Leitner, part of the Hti group, announced the success of the testing phase of its innovative urban mobility system, ConnX. This revolutionary system, which combines the features of a cable car and an autonomous electric vehicle, will be ready for the market in a year.

ConnX, whose name derives from the English term “connect”, represents a cutting-edge solution for urban public transport. The system works in an innovative way: a cable car, once it reaches the station, is transferred to an autonomous electric vehicle which continues its journey at street level. This “hybrid solution” offers two main advantages in urban areas: it allows topographic or structural obstacles to be easily overcome with the cable car and provides an efficient alternative in contexts where a continuous cable car is not feasible.

In a few months, the ConnX prototype will become a concrete option for cities, integrating aerial cableway systems with terrestrial electric mobility, such as trams and subways. This system promises to revolutionize public transport, offering unprecedented flexibility in urban development.

Klaus Erharter, technical director of Leitner, and Günther Tschinkel, Head of Electrical Engineering, expressed great satisfaction with the results obtained: “ConnX successfully passed all the careful tests carried out between the test center in Vipiteno and the Automotive Testing Center ZalaZone in Hungary. These results allow us to look forward to its next entry into the market with great confidence.”

The future of urban mobility therefore seems ready to change thanks to ConnX, which promises to offer a sustainable and efficient solution for cities around the world.
