“This is a further piece of the vast plan of interventions planned and launched by the Province to combat the indiscriminate abandonment of waste in the area and aim for a circular system of recycling and disposal of the materials we produce”, declares the extraordinary commissioner Patrizia Valenti. “Gypsum is one of the polluting factors that makes the disposal of waste from construction sites more difficult. It must be disposed of in a specific way and, precisely to meet the needs of artisan and construction companies, we have prepared an agreement that outlines a specific process to follow”, she continues.

The municipalities of Comiso, Ispica, Modica, Pozzallo, Ragusa and Vittoria and ANCE Ragusa signed the agreement. The Ragusa territorial Cna had already joined.

According to what has been agreed, the management of plaster and plasterboard waste produced on construction sites in the province of Ragusa will take place through collection in roll-off containers to be placed within municipal collection centers or areas authorized by the individual participating municipalities. The provincial body will bear the costs relating to the rental of skips, the collection and transport of special waste to authorized landfills or recovery centres.

For the year 2023, the Lcc of Ragusa has already experimented with the collection of plaster and plasterboard waste, in close collaboration with the Municipalities of Comiso and Ragusa, delivering approximately 50 tonnes of this special waste to authorized recovery centres. The challenge is renewed for 2024, thanks to the growing number of Hyblaean municipalities adhering to the initiative together with ANCE, with the aim of significantly improving collection and disposal data, thus triggering a virtuous circle that preserves the Ragusa area also from possible illegal micro landfills.
