Everything is ready for the great preview of the 34th edition of Udin&Jazz and it will be a decidedly powerful start for the event which this year too confirms quality levels that align it with the most important Italian and European jazz musical events. On Monday 24 June at the Castello di Udine the Dogstar trio will take to the stage, an American post-grunge and alternative rock project featuring Bret Domrose on guitar and vocals, Robert Mailhouse on drums and none other than the world-famous actor Keanu Reeves on bass. The last tickets for the concert are on sale on the Ticketone circuit and will also be on sale at the event ticket offices the same evening, starting from 7.30pm. Doors open to the public at 8pm while waiting for the live show which will start at 9.30pm.

After the long-awaited preview concert, the festival will come alive from 8 to 14 July, offering concerts starring the best musical proposals from the national and international context, with numerous moments of in-depth analysis and focus on Jazz and Blues and on new productions musicals by Eurythmics. Among the many stars on the calendar we find the incredible Texan guitarist and vocalist Gary Clark Jr., (Castello di Udine on 8 July), the American songwriter, musician and activist, three times Grammy Award winner, Fantastic Negrito (Castello 11 July ), the New York composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Cory Henry, (Castello on July 12).

Also worth mentioning are the McCoy Legends projects, a tribute to McCoy Tyner from his original band, The Jazz Bins by guitarist Marc Ribot, the concert meeting with “The Pianist of Yarmouk”, or Aheam Ahmad, a Palestinian refugee who grew up in a refugee camp in Damascus , and the grand finale with the revolutionary musical proposal of Daniela Pes’ trio. These are just some of the many goodies that this edition of Udin&Jazz – with the subtitle “Walking on the Blues” – has in store for its audience with the opportunity of very advantageous subscriptions. The Dogstar project might apparently seem like one of the many “alt rock” bands born in the early ’90s in America. To be precise, in 1991 in Los Angeles, when the actor Keanu Reeves meets Robert Mailhouse and decides to also live the dream of music. Dogstar were born for fun, but they immediately left the garage, opened concerts for big names and in 1996 released their first EP “Quattro Formaggi” and the album “Our Little Visionary”. After “Happy Ending” in 2000, the dissolution two years later. The project restarted during the pandemic with a series of jam sessions and in May 2023 it returned active with the same line-up, releasing the single “Everything Turns Around” and then the album “Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees”, taken on tour in the USA and from this year also in Europe. The sound is almost the same as thirty years ago: post grunge, alt rock, honest and inspired, capable of reflecting and telling the stories of the lives and dreams of three ordinary, or almost ordinary, “boys”.
