Germany starts very strong and is already ahead in the 10th minute: Kroos opens for Kimmich who suggests for Wirtz. The Leverkusen star shoots from the edge and Gunn with the ball touches the post and goes in. At the 19th minute it’s already 2-0. Gundogan unmarks Havertz, ball in the center for Musiala who kicks from the spot: shot under the crossbar and a German encore. A few minutes later VAR canceled a penalty against Germany but at the end of the first half Gundogan was brought down by Porteous who entered hard with his feet together. The referee goes to the VAR and awards a penalty as well as giving the Scottish player a red card. Havertz makes no mistakes from the spot and sends his team ahead by three goals (and with the extra man). In the second half there was still room for Germany’s poker, with Füllkrug scoring in the 68th minute. The same Borussia Dortmund striker goes into the net again a few minutes later, but VAR disallows it due to an offside position. Three minutes from the end, Rudiger’s own goal brings the result to 4-1, but in added time the Germans score again with Emre Can: it ends 5-1 for Germany.

Ceremony-show, emotion to remember Beckenbauer

The party at the Munich stadium, the show and the emotional memory of Franz Beckenbauer, who died at the age of 78 on January 7th. Euro 2024 officially kicked off with the match between Germany and Scotland. But Euro 2024 fever invaded the streets of Munich already in the late afternoon. In a friendly atmosphere, the imposing Tartan Army, the nickname of the Scottish fans (between 100,000 and 200,000 are expected in Germany for the duration of the competition), occupied the Marienplatz in the center of Munich. The Olympic Park fan zone (35,000 seats) was already sold out at 6pm, three hours before kick-off. At 6pm, as the sky turned blue, spectators were admitted to the stadium (66,000 seats) in the northern area of the Munich urban area, usually occupied by Bayern Munich. Three years after a European championship postponed for a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, held in reduced capacity stadiums and spread across 11 different cities on the continent, the 2024 edition returns to a more traditional format, in Germany, thanks to experience of the 2006 World Cup. Above all, all the stadiums have returned to their normal configuration, with 2.7 million spectators expected in the 10 stadiums to watch the 51 matches of the tournament. Shortly before the entry of the teams the tribute to Kaiser Beckenbauer: his widow Heidi brought the European Championship trophy onto the field together with the two German captains who won the European championship, Bernard Dietz (1980) and Jurgen Klinsmann (1996). In the background a very emotional video.
