Connection between station and intermodal hub

The Trento municipal council has approved the document evaluating the technical-administrative feasibility of the new cycle/pedestrian path, barriered thanks to a lift, which will connect the train station and the new intermodal hub under construction in the former Sit area.

Financed by the budget change with 500 thousand euros, the project involves a series of works to create a soft mobility path that starts from the train station to connect, with a protected route along the eastern border of the railway area, to the San Lorenzo and then, on the west side, to the new extra-urban transport station under construction. The route, of around 400 metres, is more direct than the current one, provides for a barrier via lift and at the same time aims to redevelop some areas of the city (such as Piazza Da Vinci and the Piazza della Portela area in general), in the with a view to improving liveability, safety and cycle-pedestrian connections.

The executive project is expected by mid-2025 and the construction of the work by mid-2026, in time for the start of activities of the new bus station.

The development project of the former Sit area envisages the creation of a new city intermodal hub which has among its objectives a closer and more effective interrelationship between the different mobility systems that belong to it: the Brenner railway line and the Valsugana railway lines and Trento-Malé, the extra-urban road service lines, the urban road transport lines, the cable car to Sardagna and Monte Bondone, the shared bicycle service). The relocation of the bus station also provides for a simplification of accessibility and a rationalization of vehicle routes with a reduction in traffic in the central part of the city.
