Five convictions and one acquittal. This is what was ordered by the single judge Giorgia Formisano of the Naples North court against 6 people accused of the death of Marco Dell’Anno, the 36-year-old worker from Maddaloni who was electrocuted, on 30 January 2018 while working on a 6×3 advertising system near Nola -Villa Literno on behalf of a Maddaloni company.
The judge imposed a 2-year prison sentence on Mattia Santacroce, 46 years old from Maddaloni, owner of the company ’24 Lab di Mattia Santacroce’, the victim’s employer; Alessandro Del Monaco, 46 year old from Maddaloni, corporate director of ’24 Lab’; Antonio Iorio, 48 year old from Maddaloni, worker of ’24 Lab’; Abderrahim Sobti, a 37-year-old Moroccan from Santa Maria a Vico, employee of the Santacroce company; Saverio Coppola, 54 years old from Castel Volturno, owner of the fuel distributor of the same name. Vincenzo Sagliocchi, owner of ‘V&G Energy of Naples’, was acquitted.
According to the reconstruction of the Norman Prosecutor’s Office, Santacroce and Del Monaco did not comply with all the regulations for accidents at work and did not draw up a report certifying the electrical risk of bare electrical cables under tension on construction sites for the maintenance of distributor signs. Sobti was driving the crane on a truck present on the construction site and following a risky maneuver he had collided with the vehicle of his colleague Iorio who was carrying a 3 meter metal rod which, hitting the electrical cables, caused the death of Dell’Anno who was replacing the petrol station sign in via Santa Maria a Cubito in Villa Literno. In Coppola and Sagliocchi the Prosecutor’s Office contested the omission of signs certifying the electrical danger in their distributors which were leasing companies. Only for Sagliocchi did the judge formulate an acquittal because the fact did not exist. His defender, the lawyer Ferdinando Letizia, demonstrated that he was not the employer and his omission could not be accused. The lawyers Mario Corsiero, Immacolata Barretta and Giuseppe Siconolfi were involved in the defense team.
