According to what was reconstructed by the Perugia Prosecutor’s Office, a thirty-year-old resident in Assisi is said to have been the protagonist of serious episodes of domestic violence against his partner. The acts of violence, which included punches, kicks and even bites, were motivated by the man’s jealousy: he did not tolerate the woman taking care of her physical appearance, fearing that this could attract the attention of other men. The attacks, repeated over time, provoked the victim lesions judged to heal in ten days. Following the investigations, the Assisi police station has a precautionary measure order was carried out against the thirty-year-old, who is now subject to a ban on approaching places frequented by the offended person. This provision, ordered by the judge for preliminary investigations of the Umbrian capital, is supplemented by a control using an electronic device to ensure compliance with the restrictions.
The history of violence that emerged from the investigators has highlighted a picture of mistreatment that had created a serious state of anxiety and fear in the woman. On several occasions, the victim was forced to flee the house without documents, wallet and cell phone, seeking help from passers-by in order to report the facts to the police. The Prosecutor’s Office underlined that these episodes they are part of a broader and more complex story of prolonged mistreatment. Already in November 2023, the woman reported similar episodes, initiating criminal proceedings for family mistreatment and aggravated injuries. On that occasion, the man was banned from approaching the offended person, a measure which was subsequently revoked last February following the dismissal of the complaint by the victim.
Despite the warning measure issued by the police commissioner of Perugia in the same month, the man continued to perpetrate his violence, finally forcing his partner to abandon the house in which they lived together. The woman, in a subsequent visit to the emergency room, declared that she had not eaten for days, further highlighting the serious state of suffering she was in. The story appears to be yet another sad example of the need for timely and resolute interventions to protect victims of domestic violenceas well as the fundamental importance of a protection system that guarantees the effective application of restrictive measures against the guilty.
