This week Jannik Sinner participated in the Halle tournament where for the first time he plays as number one in the world. The blue tennis player is called to a small reaction between Halle and especially Wimbledon after the semi-final at Roland Garros which saw him succumb to his great rival Carlos Alcaraz.
Although the ranking says otherwise, many people talk about Alcaraz as the true number one on the circuit, a situation that goes beyond the real ranking. This year Jannik is doing better, but for some he enjoys a record mainly due to some physical problems of Alcaraz which is almost always present in important tournaments.
The victory in Paris exalted the Spaniard who, now at 23 years old, has already won Slams on all surfaces and can do even better. Speaking to Oasport, journalist Dario Puppo released statements that are certainly destined to cause a lot of discussion, words regarding Sinner’s lead in the rankings compared to Alcaraz.
Here are his words: “There is constant discussion about who is the stronger between Alcaraz and Sinner, the Roland Garros and Wimbledon pairing has been achieved by few in tennis and if Alcaraz were to succeed, then perhaps the computer is wrong.”
The reference is clearly made to the ranking with Sinner currently number one ahead of Alcaraz”. However, Puppo clarified: “Obviously the computer may be wrong, but it does what it is told. He doesn’t decide.”
And on the possible double with Musetti at the Olympics: “I spoke about this possibility last year, I think it is intriguing even if I think it depends on the fact that Sonego does not participate in the competition”, concluded the journalist.
