ANCONA – It would have been a fault in the electric meter that started the flames that destroyed the DS Smith Recycling warehouse, in via Caduti del Lavoro, in Baraccola. The accidental hypothesis is currently being examined by the Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutor Irene Bilotta has opened a case without any suspects for fire. It is currently impossible to investigate what was inside the warehouse, where the paper was stored, because the plant is at risk of collapse and would not be safe. The paper was also partly piled up near the counter. Thus the accidental hypothesis. The first flames, due to a possible short circuit, would have been fatal to fuel everything else. In the compactor there would have been no paper inside. On the ignition of the fire, how it started, there is footage from the video surveillance cameras already acquired and being examined by the mobile team carrying out the investigation. Meanwhile, for three days the firefighters have been working continuously to quell small outbreaks which could resume with the clearance operations. Reclamation has begun by the Special Operations Group with earthmoving vehicles. The Prosecutor’s Office is also awaiting the results of the air sampling, which will not arrive before Monday, and of the roof to understand whether it contained asbestos and whether other hypotheses of crime can therefore be identified from an environmental point of view.
