On 4 May it was signed by the Regional School Office of Tuscany and the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia, a: “Memorandum of understanding for initiatives and training and education courses aimed at celebrating the Day of Remembrance and spreading the history of the Adriatic Border to managers, teachers and students of Tuscan schools”.

A great recognition

What has been achieved is an important recognition for the great work of testimony and in-depth analysis carried out over the years in schools on the occasion of Remembrance Day by the representatives ofANVGD in Tuscany, an area where there have been important refugee collection centers such as Laterina (AR), Sant’Orsola in Florence, Marina di Massa and Marina di Carrara.

The initiatives that will be implemented

The fundamental work and rooting in the territory ofANVGD in Tuscany it has been further strengthened, and this protocol is proof of this, and lays the foundations for high-profile work in collaboration with the institutions. The two associations in synergy will promote initiatives, events and training meetings in classes, online and in person; they will define – in compliance with the skills and responsibilities drawn up by the national teacher training plan – training and research paths for teaching staff on topics related to Remembrance Day.

Furthermore, an annual competition will be promoted on the themes of the exodus and the foibe, which will allow the students involved to delve more directly into the themes of the Istrian, Fiume and Dalmatian tragedy, with the organization of visits to the places where the tragedy occurred and to the places linked to the Istrian exodus with the memory and testimonies of the exiles.

The first date

On Wednesday 5 June there was already the first note with a meeting with the representative of Office III of the USRT Prof. Silvia Alessandra Sangiovanniin the presence of the president of the Provincial Committee of Florence of the ANVGD, Prof.ssa Daniela Velliand the ANVGD regional coordinator for Tuscany, Guido Giacomettito proceed with the structuring of the project Exodus: historical roots, memory and future and further proposals presented by the regional coordinator were implemented.

Daniela Velli, also National Councilor ANVGDexpressed his satisfaction: “I believe that it is an important objective achieved for the association I represent. Finally the schools of the Tuscany Region will be able to participate in training conferences, inspired by the Guidelines for Teaching of the Adriatic Frontier, held by historians of the highest level and in the presence of witnesses of

first and second generation”.

The first event, a regional training seminar for managers and teachers whose organizational details will be defined shortly.
