Emanuele Schillace, in the rain, wins the Gambarie Slalom

The Sicilian rider, on a Radical SR4 Suzuki, wins the Calabrian competition, valid for the Italian Slalom Championship, heavily affected by bad weather. Second place for the reigning Italian champion of the specialty, Michele Puglisi, also at the start on a Radical SR4 Suzuki. Giuseppe Giametta, the fastest among the E2 SS on Formula Gloria, completes an all-Sicilian podium.

The Gambarie Slalomthird test of Italian Slalom Championship on stage in Calabria, stops after the first heat. Climbing onto the top step of the podium is Emanuele Schillace from Messina who, at the wheel of his Radical SR4 Suzuki, crossed the finish line three thousand meters from the start with a time of 2’34” and 72 hundredths, first in the E2 SC group.

“Very complicated race”, declares the winner at the end of the day. “Despite everything we managed to find a good set-up which, today more than ever, helped me to win”.

Second place for Michele Puglisi from Catania who, like the champion he is, recorded the best overall time, over seven seconds faster than Schillace, but paid a ten-point penalty for a pin he missed on his Radical SR4 Suzuki and finished 2nd. ” and 76 cents from first.

“It was a beautiful race made difficult by the weather conditions,” declared the reigning Italian Slalom Champion at the end of the race. “The missed pin is really the only regret at the end of a slalom which, however, leaves me satisfied with how I was able to run in the rain today”.

On the lowest step of the podium is another Sicilian, Giuseppe Giametta who, at the wheel of his Formula Gloria B5 Suzuki, scored 166.42 points, first among the formulas competing today in Calabria.

“It’s a very difficult race for me too,” declares the driver from Mazara. “We found the right set-up for the car which helped me achieve this good result”.

Fourth time overall for Adriano Ricci from Lazio, also on a Formula Gloria B5 Suzuki, ahead of Gaetano Rechichi on an Elia Avrio ST09 Suzuki. Sixth time for Eugenio Catizone, the fastest of the cars in Group E1 Italy, on the Renault 5 GT Turbo. Only seventh was Salvatore Venanzio from Campania who, in addition to ten penalty points for a pin he grazed with his Radical SR4 Suzuki in one of the eleven slowdown stations along the route, paid for the start taken in one of the moments in which the rain fell heaviest . Giovanni Coghe, eighth overall at the wheel of a Citroën Saxo Group E1 Italia, precedes Carmelo Cugno in the standings, the fastest among the Racing Start Plus on a Peugeot 106. The top ten of the Gambarie Slalom is completed by Domenico Tramontana on an Autobianchi A112 Abarth Group E1 Italia .

Luigi Vinaccia from Campania is out of the rankings on an Osella PA 6/9 Honda following a violent collision at the end of a spin without physical consequences and “Totò” Arresta retired before the start of the heat on a Formula Gloria B5 Evo Suzuki.

Best time in Group N for Andrea Mascolo, twelfth overall on Citroën Saxo VTS imitated among the cross karts by Giuseppe Esposito on Kart GMN Suzuki.

Giuseppe La Corte, at the wheel of a Peugeot 106, climbs to the top step of the Special Group Slalom podium.

The same is done by Gaetano Argentano in Gruppo Racing Start at the wheel of the same “small” car from the Casa del Leone, Vittorio Grandinetti in Group A on an Alfa Romeo 33 QV, Giuseppe Catalano in Group E2 SH on a Chevy Coupé Yamaha and Domenico Morabito on a Fiat 500 among the twin-cylinder.
