Okay, we are not at the levels of the memorable Xbox Games Showcase 2024, but Nintendo’s summer event certainly did not betray the community’s expectations, thanks to the many announcements in the name of nostalgia and creativity which marked the rhythm of an interactive show full of surprises.
The mirror of the ambitions cultivated by the Kyoto house for what will probably be the last great summer showcase dedicated to the current generation of Switch consoles is represented precisely by the title chosen to open the waltz of the World Premiere of the June Direct: we are referring to the reveal of Mario & Luigi Brothership, the lively role-playing platform adventure which will see the two brothers collaborate to overcome a whole series of challenges within a constantly changing scenario.
To further pluck the strings of nostalgia of the millions of gamers who grew up on Nintendo bread and consoles, the Japanese company then opened a window on the retro multiverse of Nintendo World Championships NES Edition, officially opening pre-orders for the highly anticipated collection with over 150 challenges set in the dimensions of the most iconic and representative titles of the classic NES game library.
The already fast pace of announcements in the first part of the Nintendo Direct became frenetic to say the least with the carousel of World Premieres of Fairy Tail 2, Fantasian Neo Dimension, MIO Memories in Orbit, Hello Kitty Island Adventure and Looney Toones Wacky World of Sports fired repeatedly from the Kyoto house to demonstrate its commitment to supporting the Switch community with many titles destined to arrive on the hybrid console between now and the very first months of 2025. And we are only at the beginning!
Yes, because in Nintendo’s summer Direct there was also space for the announcement of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, for the presentation of the HD-2D remake of the Dragon Quest trilogyfor that matter shadow drops on eShop of Metal Slug Attack Reloaded, for the announcement of Phantom Brave The Lost Hero and the video reveal of MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics.
To close its summer show in the best possible way, the gaming giant from the Land of the Rising Sun has finally raised the curtain on Super Mario Party Jamboree, on Switch port of Strayon a new trailer for LEGO Horizon Adventures, on Just Dance 2025 and, above all, on the Reveal Trailer for The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom, on Ace Attorney Investigation Collection and on the new, highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4 Beyond video. There was also no shortage of ‘final cherries’ represented by the demonstration videos of Romancing SaGa 2 Revenge of the Seven and adventure The Hundred Line Last Defense Academy.
It is therefore sufficient to scroll through the long list of announcements that characterized this Nintendo Direct in June to look with confidence to the near future of the consoles of the current Switch family, and this regardless of the anticipation fueled by the announcement of the next generation of Nintendo platforms.
