Genoa. The thirteenth edition of the beach volleyball tournament organized by the MiMe Sport Friendly Association will begin, which will be held on Voltri beach, at the beginning of the Roberto Bruzzone promenade.

The tournament will come into full swing starting from Monday 1st July and will liven up the evenings of the Voltrese delegation until Saturday 6th July, when music, entertainment and matches will begin in the morning. As always, the event will be framed by food stands managed by over 70 volunteers from the association.

This year 88 teams will participate, eight more than last year. “The demand is very high – declares Danilo Meardi, president of Mime Sport Friendly – we had already reached the maximum number of teams just two hours after registration opened. The event has reached a nice size and arouses an enthusiasm that makes us proud, especially given the ultimate aim of the event, which is to contribute to the territory, both with charitable donations and by animating the suburbs with events”.

Over the course of its 15 years of activity, the association founded in 2009 in memory of Michele Meardi, who died in an accident on the Turchino state road, has collected and donated over 220 thousand euros. Numerous initiatives and organizations were supported, from the Red Cross to the Mental Health Centre, to the Evangelico, Villa Scassi and Giannina Gaslini city hospitals, up to the donation of a calisthenics park for the Voltrese community. All the initiatives are in line with Mime’s philosophy, which is not to donate cash but to donate something concrete for the territory.

Work on setting up the pitches will begin on Friday 28 June. “During the set-up and dismantling – explains Meardi – we have always been moved by a community spirit, trying with the means and people involved in the construction of the fields to also clean and repair portions of the promenade and beach, to make them better than they were before. we found them, so that the community can enjoy a safer and cleaner place.”
