The Chamber approved article 5 of the Autonomy Bill with 170 votes in favor and 105 against. Previously, Montecitorio had received the green light for articles 2, 3 and 4. The river session was suspended and will continue again during the night. The approval of the river session by the majority after the lack of agreement between the group leaders had been criticized by the opposition, who had spoken of a disgrace to Parliament. The river session was also criticized by the 5 Star Movement: «We would have liked to debate the bill on differentiated autonomy with seriousness and serenity, but this was prevented by the majority since the examination in the Commission. A majority which, with the decision to limit the discussion times and to approve the measure under the cover of darkness, literally raped Parliament, a squad violence which we also saw in the attack on one of our colleagues, who had the sole fault of offering a tricolor flag to Minister Calderoli. Fortunately, Italian citizens will perfectly understand the havoc that the majority is causing to the detriment of the country.”
The leader of the Democratic Party in the Chamber Chiara Brega spoke of forcing to impose the dictatorship of the majority: «The Chamber of the Chamber is examining without any obstructionist attitude of the opposition a bill which presents no urgency and which, moreover, has time to contingent discussion. An attack on the institutions is taking place in the night, under the cover of darkness, for the sole reason of consummating a political exchange between the majority forces, to the detriment of citizens and institutions. Yet another test of strength from the right which wants to impose a real dictatorship of the majority on parliament.”
The oppositions
Even for Nicola Fratoianni of Avs it is “yet another completely useless forcing, a sign of arrogance”. Because «there is no rush, there is no decree that expires and times are limited. We as oppositions will have other tools to oppose the split-Italy, we will do it outside Parliament. We are faced with an attitude that rejects any form of dialogue and discussion.”
