the surprise duet in Marì and Due vite at Maradona

Nino D’Angelo celebrated his 80s at the Maradona stadium and as an exceptional guest Marco Mengoni also took to the stage and duetted in Marì.

Nino D’Angelo and Marco Mengoni

Nino D’Angelo’s fans could hardly have expected the surprise of seeing on the stage of the Maradona stadium, among the guests of the Neapolitan singer who was celebrating his wonderful 80s, also Marco Mengoni. It’s not the multiverse, but just the homage of one of the pop stars of Italian music to one of the myths of Naples in the world, a singer-songwriter who has changed many faces, and who has combined Neapolitan melody and World music, capable, over the years, of changing the minds of those who looked at him with snobbery for that blond bob, those musicals and that attitude a little too much like a urchin.

He had also explained it in the press conference who anticipated the concert, when he explained that after celebrating his 60th birthday with only the B curve he had realized his dream of being able to use the entire Maradona stadium: “All of Nino D’Angelo will be there, the man will be there, the Nino D’Angelo of the 80s, and he will be loved by all of Naples, which didn’t happen in the 80s because the city was divided over that boy with the blond bob, and over time all of Naples learned to love him. They learned to love him because they realized that we were losing all those feelings that were told in the B-series movies and they understood that they were important”.

And in the end D’Angelo kept his promises and it was celebrated at the Maradona stadium, celebrating precisely those 80s that are also the songs that the hard core of his fans love to sing every day, as the singer-songwriter from San Pietro a Patierno said, seeing that at each of his concerts those songs are the most sung and danced to. “Batticuore”, “Fotoromanzo”, “Chiara”, “Maledetto treno”, but also “‘A discoteca”, “Popcorn e patatine”, “Napoli” and “‘Nu jeans e ‘na camicia” up to the encores of “Un ragazzo e una ragazza”, “Vai” and “Il cammino dell’amore”. The bob, as expected, was the absolute protagonist of an evening that also saw Roberta Olivieri, the actress who played the singer’s girlfriend in seven films from 1982 to 1988, go on stage.

Towards the end of the evening, however, Marco Mengoni himself unexpectedly came on stage. The artist was welcomed by the roar of the audience and together with Nino D’Angelo he duetted in Marì, a song that D’Angelo brought to the stage of the Sanremo festival in 2002 and which ranked in fifteenth place. After a solo start, Mengoni appears on stage and puts his voice at the service of the song. The audience applauds, but when the song ends the singer from Ronciglione remains and this time the roles are reversed, with D’Angelo mentioning a Neapolitan version of Due Vite, followed closely by an amused Mengoni who continues to sing the winning song of the festival 2023 always in dialect.
