Morgan was acquitted by the court of Imperia from the charge of aggravated defamation against Bugo – whose real name is Cristian Bugatti – for what happened on the stage of the Sanremo Festival 2020. For the judge, in fact, “the fact does not exist” and so the accusation made by Bugo who had felt defamed by what happened on the Ariston stage, when Marco Castoldi – Morgan’s real name – had changed the words of the song they were competing with, Sincero, fell, leading to the argument between the two, to Bugo leaving the stage and to the disqualification of the song and therefore of the couple by the festival.
In fact, during the Friday evening, Morgan and Bugo argued behind the scenes and when the former Bluvertigo sat down at the piano to accompany his former friend, he changed the lyrics of the song, modifying them against Bugo and reproaching him for what, according to him, had been ingratitude. The lyrics, which had now become famous, read: “The bad intentions, the rudeness, your bad impression last night, your ingratitude, your arrogance, do what you want by putting your feet on your head […] but you only know how to cultivate envy, thank heaven you’re on this stage, respect whoever brought you here and that’s me”.
The case ended up in court after Bugo decided to report Morgan who, in addition to the disqualification, explained that he felt defamed. That moment also became the most viewed video of the year in Italy and will surely remain in the Rai archives as one of the iconic moments of the Festival. When Bugo realized that Morgan’s words had been changed, in fact, he left the stage and Morgan, feigning surprise, wondered what was happening, following his colleague backstage and leaving the stage empty.
