Yesterday we showed you the first images of Herethe new film by Robert Zemeckis with protagonists Tom Hanks And Robin Wrightreunited 30 years ago Forrest Gump. Eric Roth also participated in the great reunion, returning to write the screenplay with Zemeckis.
Based on the graphic novel by Richard McGuire, Here takes place in New England and tells a story of love, loss, hope, struggle and legacy with Tom Hanks And Robin Wrightprotagonists of a story that spans multiple generations.
The peculiarity of Here is to have a single fixed point of view, the camera does not move a millimetre: it is therefore the situations and characters that move in a living room over the course of more than a century in 104 minutes of film.
“This is the most exciting part” Zemeckis told Vanity Fair. “What passes before the gaze of this universe? I find it an interesting way to reflect on mortality and address the universal theme that everything passes“.
Alluding to his films such as Polar Express, Beowulf And A Christmas Carolthe director then admitted:
For some emotional reasons I have always been labeled as a visual effects enthusiast, but the truth is that I have always used them to support a character’s story. I have always made numerous attempts because I believe that our job as directors is to show viewers things that they don’t see in real life.
Zemeckis then praised the interpretation of the two protagonists:
The result only works because the performances are excellent. Both Tom and Robin understood the task immediately: “Ok, we need to go back and show how we were 40-50 years ago, we need to show the energy, the posture and lighten our voices“.
The director shared the initial idea for the project with Hanks on the set of Pinocchio:
We were in London, talking about cinema, and we said to each other: “Is there a chance to do something completely unique and never done before?“. I answered: “Well, there’s this graphic novel that I can’t get out of my head. It’s called Here“. That evening Tom went home, bought the book on Kindle and the next day he said to me: “Oh my God, we found it!“.
Despite all the experience behind them, the veterans of Forrest Gump They know it’s a gamble, but Zemeckis said he’s happy to have found another mountain to climb:
This is what makes the story full of hope. As long as you breathe, you can always carry on with your dreams.
