With yesterday’s defeat against Switzerland, Riccardo Calafiori’s Italian journey ends (for now, ed.). And the future starts again from tomorrow, day one of the Italian transfer market.
Riccardo is one of Bologna’s two prized pieces, which they have not put on the market, but faced with indispensable offers (there is talk of 50/60 million), he could leave.
Ahead of the times: the example of Calafiori
That was done with Calafiori last year, a perfect move by the Sartori-Di Vaio duo, for a full-back-center who had everything to do well. Despite his injury-filled past, there were no uncertainties and the rest is history.
Today, with Real Madrid also interested in the former Roma player, the Sartori-Di Vaio duo begins the same path as last year. Having chosen the low wingers (Holm and Miranda), it is a matter of identifying a central defender who can replace a possible departure of Calafiori, who will never go to Juve (Saputo dixit).

The Technical Area has already identified the names of potential replacements: Jaka Bijol (Udinese), Lilian Brassier (Brest), Marin Pongracic (Lecce) and Leonardo Balerdi (Marseille). Starting with Brassier, the player is still on the market, even if Marseille, led by the new coach De Zerbi, are very strong on him.
Brassier was the first object of Sartori’s desire: 186 centimeters, 24 years old, left foot (like Calafiori), no experience in Cups (or in the national team). Shifting the focus to Bijol, we find a right-footed central defender, 190 centimeters, who is now a Slovenian international, at Euro2024.
Still in Serie A, another interest (last year it was also explored) is for Marin Pongracic (Lecce). Marin, 26 years old with dual nationality (Croatian and German), is 193 centimeters tall and right-footed. National and teammate of Luka Modric, he comes from a year well played in Salento.
Finally Balerdi from Marseille: 187, 25 years old, with good experience of the Cups, right foot. He was also sought last year, but Marseille, after a few weeks, took him off the market, calling him unsellable.
