Homophobic violence at Poetto.

A well-known surgeon from Cagliari, Andrea Corona, was attacked and beaten last night in Poetto in Cagliari, not far from Fico d’India, a kiosk usually frequented by LGBTQ+ people where the celebrations for Sardinia Pride 2024 continued yesterday.

In fact, the demonstration that colored the streets of Cagliari to once again demand rights and respect for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities had ended only a few hours earlier.

“A stranger attacked and beat me – Andrea Corona reported on social networks -. After kicking and punching me this man told me that he was going to get a knife to kill me. I called the police and no one came to protect me.

“When people ask me if homophobia still exists in Italy, this is the answer. An ordinary person is attacked by another person. This is the way to respect others, the way in which we are protected in Italy. This is a cry of desperation. We returned home shocked and distraught, we had to flee out of fear.”

“I am terrified,” concluded Andra Corona, who also complained that he had not been adequately assisted by the police in a moment of great fear and loneliness.

The victim of the violence was visited and assisted by 118 operators.
